Overview

The Universal API is Moralis’ unified, multichain Data API, designed to provide a single, consistent interface for accessing blockchain data across 30+ supported chains, including EVM networks, Solana, and Bitcoin. It standardizes complex on-chain data into clean, developer-friendly formats, allowing you to build multichain applications without handling chain-specific differences.

What the Universal API Is For

The Universal API is intended for:
  • Applications that support EVM, Solana, and Bitcoin
  • Teams building chain-agnostic products
  • Use cases where a consistent data model across chains is more important than chain-specific depth
Where possible, new endpoints are introduced in the Universal API first. Robinhood Chain Data API support is currently available only through the Universal API. See Supported Chains for details.

Selecting a Chain

Universal API endpoints take the chain in one of two ways, depending on the endpoint: When using chains:
  • To query several chains, repeat the parameter once per chain. Comma-separated values are not supported.
  • Use chains (plural). The singular chain parameter is rejected with a 400 error.
  • If you omit chains, the request covers every mainnet the endpoint supports.
  • The shortcuts all, mainnets, and testnets are also accepted. They work only with chains, not with chainAlias.
EVM chains accept either the hex chain ID or an alias. Solana and Bitcoin accept aliases only. Common values:
Supported chains vary by endpoint. Each endpoint page lists one accepted value per chain; the other values in this table work too. For the full chain list, see Supported Chains.
Streams uses hex chain IDs only (for example, 0x1). Aliases such as ethereum or robinhood are not accepted there.

Consolidation Strategy

Moralis is gradually consolidating cross-chain functionality into the Universal API. This means:
  • New multichain endpoints are added to the Universal API
  • Existing EVM- or Solana-specific endpoints may be mirrored or superseded over time
  • No breaking changes are introduced without notice
The Universal API represents the long-term direction for multichain data access at Moralis.

When to Use the Universal API

Use the Universal API if you:
  • Need the same endpoint to work across EVM, Solana, and Bitcoin
  • Want to minimize chain-specific logic
  • Are building dashboards, analytics, or wallets that span multiple ecosystems

When Not to Use It

For advanced, chain-specific features, you may still want:
  • EVM API for deep EVM-only functionality
  • Solana Data API for Solana-specific data and semantics
  • Bitcoin API for Bitcoin-specific endpoints including the xpub utility
